i just recently got a AE92 for a steal, $150 running and driveing along with another car as well
it runs great, has some flat spots in the throttle, but otherwise no problems
i've read a bit so far and have heard of diffrent engine swaps that are possible, etc
my question is, i have acess to a complete MKI MR2, i can get the engine for free, but the bottom end is siezed, the head though is in perfect shape
are there any options for me to just swap a head and go EFI for a little more kick right now untill i rebuild the MR2 bottom end or would i need to swap the whole motor?
basicly i just want to goto EFI for now while i rebuild the MR2 motor and piece together a turbo kit, then i'll swap everything in
hmm if your talking about making a ae92 efi rather than carb'd sounds like you have an 88 or 89 sr5 with the 4af carb'd engine. We have this question come up alot. People are always told it's a bad idea because of the 4af pistions.
But I don't recall anyone doing it anyways and comming back to tell us otherwise
my advise would be to successfully convert to EFI first then.. piece together a turbo kit.. it will be a good amount of work all its own to go EFI

putting the 4age head on the 4af causes you to lose compression. They will bolt up though because in the end your looking at it comming off a 4a block and being bolted onto another 4a block.

Yup! I second that.
I converted my carb Tercel to EFI, and it was a lot of work.
With the Corolla it might be easier if you get a gastank with pump and the wiring harness from a later model that has EFI. Those were the items that gave me the most headache. The wire harness swap will be quite a task but, a lot easier than trying to splice in the necessary circuits.

if swaping the head will lower my compression, then that will go along with my turbo plans in the future anyway and i may end up just keeping the 4AF depending on what the CR would be
any idea as to what it would be or know where i could find the info to see for myself?
if i went and got an EFI harness out of a newer model (how much newer should i look for?) would there be any spliceing needed or would i just need to swap the harness and hook it up?
if its just a harness swap that shouldnt be too big an ordeal, i've done a few on diffrent cars
also, how strong are the rods on on the 4AF? i havent ripped one apart yet to see how beefy/wimpy the rods are
i dumped 4K into my last turbo build and did 99% of the work myself, so im set on buildin it, but always open for advice, i'll give him a shout and see what he has to say
thanks for all the info so far guys, its really been alot of help
