Australia Removing spark plug lead at dist cap end...????

Hi all,
Just going to check resistance in spark plug leads on 97 Corolla (1.8) and can't for the life of me figure out how to remove the lead at the dist cap. Pic of connection below.
I never 'force' things as I usually break them, but is there a trick for this connection???
thanks heaps.

hmm iirc in the US 96 and higher are not removeable. otherwise theres a clip that you have to lift a little to get the wire retainer off. a small flatblade will lift it, then just pull.

thanks for the response.

Wow - not removable - does that mean they sell the dist cap & leads as 1 spare part??

There's no metal clip to lift, and I've just had my next door neighbour (who is one of those old guys who knows everything about everything) to have a look and he couldn't figure it out either...

weird...

Just rang up Toyota, and they said they definitely DO come off ($177 AUS for a new set of leads, $132 for new cap; separate parts).

Strange - will keep trying...anyone else managed to get them off???

the clip isnt metal, its plastic and part of the retainer. i just cant think of how it goes off the top of my head! its across from the rectangular shaped thing on the side of the retainer, thats actually an alignment tab.

Sussed it. thanks for the help.

Get a small flat blade screwdriver and lift the what I would call 'retaining clip' (on the opposite (other) side of the plastic retainer in the picture above). When you lift, the retainer will slide away from the plug end. Enjoy!

thanks again for the help everyone.

yes, in the US the odb2 or the cali spec 7th gen corollla has the wires glued to the cap for some reason, i guess they figured that by the time either part was worn the other part would be worn out as well.
