Clutch Disk Size Question.

1990 AE92 GTS.
Shopping for a new clutch. The one on the car has crapped out after ~10k miles. I see two sizes listed: 200mm and 212mm. What gives? Which one is the right size? Could the reason that the clutch on the car went bad so soon be that it was the wrong size? Any help is appreicated. Thanks.

Is this the clutch disk or the pressure plate assembly?
If is the disk, the larger one is probably an improved version that should fit right in.

I ran into the same thing with my Tercel. The newer models have a larger diameter disk that fits right into the old pressuer plate, (same part number pressure plate, old and newer models). With the pressure plate out, I could see that the old disk didn't go all the way to the edge beacuse of the dirt mark that was there. I took the pressure plate with me to the auto parts shop and matched it up to verify that the larger disk would work.

You need a different flywheel for the different sizes, not sure where they switched over.
The bluetop is 200mm and the 20v's are 212mm. I can't say about the other 16v's.

But you shouldn't have any problem with the smaller size, especially with a standard road car.

Did you have the flywheel skimmed when you put the new clutch in, whats your driving style like, was it a good brand?

diddo on the flywheel. i think the redtop used the 212mm.

Haven't done the clutch job yet. Brother's motor swap is taking up all the space in backyard right now.
Was doing some research when I came across the two different sized disks. I'll take the flywheel to get resurfaced and will check then when I do the job.
Current clutch has only ~10k miles on it but it feels like garbage. Rattles and car doesn't want to pull past 4k.
Frankly it hasn't been a pleasant experience with the car so far and I'm starting to think I may get rid of it.

a clutch shouldnt die after 10k, unless theres was something wrong with it, or it has been abused.

Maybe the rear engine seal is leaking oil on the clutch assembly causing slippage

the t/o bearing isn't possible to be 'misaligned'.... it clips onto the tranny and the clutch fork
