Odometer?

2001 chevy prizm

does the mileage for the odometer store on the instrument cluster itself or to a computer onboard the car?

I'm assuming the odo is not digital, so no. If it IS digital, then yes.

I see. Well if it knows how many miles you racked up, you can be sure it's stored in the computer..how else would it bring the current mileage up when you start it? You plan on switching dashes or something? I think it'd show the correct miles even on the replacement...

yes, from what i've read and people around i've asked if its a digital cluster, its stored in the cluster, if its go the rolling numbers, its stored on a computer...

i woulda thought it would be the other way around

so, how would i go about getting the odometer of the new cluster changed to the milege of my old one?

The milage in every car is stored in the cluster.

Any auto electrition should be able to do it (or send it to someone who can)
If you electrically inclined you could use a signal generator to do it.
