O.K. people. This is for those that may be interested and have access to the salvage auctions. My late, lamented ’89 Corolla GT-S went to Impact, a salvage distributor. From there they auction them to licensed dealers or mechanics for scrap or rebuilding. The stock # at Impact is BU762. Since I DID actually still have collision coverage and they offered me a nice settlement, I took the cheque and signed it over to them (sadly). The reason I’m not posting this in the For Sale section is due to the fact that it is no longer my car; simply I wanted to give a Heads Up for anyone looking for a solid rebuildable AE92.
The car was titled as salvage, as in rebuildable and salvageable (as opposed to never being allowed to be registered for road use again). Several people have had a good look at the extent of the damage and agree that it is rebuildable. The firewall is undamaged, as is the rest of the body rearward of the firewall. No broken glass or disturbed door gaps. Since getting the brake calipers, rotors, exhaust from the cat back done it has not seen road salt. The complete parking brake cables, front pipe and factory manifold (4-2-1) have only seen 1 winter. What did this guy do when he detected a leak in the oil pan? I got a brand new one from Toyota installed$ of course! The rest of the body is very, very solid. No leaks. It has been rustproofed and oil-sprayed religiously. The interior has fading on the seat tops but there are no rips or tears. The factory alloys are pretty good. I was planning on having them all trued and polished before mounting new tires on it next year, that is after I had the scheduled paint work and brand new moldings installed at the end of summer. (sigh).
As for the front end, the impact was mostly taken by the sheetmetal and shock tower. The force did not directly hit the bumper and therefor did not transfer through the frame rail into the rest of the body. The rad, rad support, cooling fans, oil cooler, evaporator, hood, right headlight assembly, power steering reservoir, cruise control, washer bottle are toast. The rad actually smashed into the distributor and bent it. The right shock tower moved back and in, kinking the tower-to-firewall brace on the right The engine cradle shifted as a result.
This car would be ideal for somebody to jack into proper shape, install a new inner apron, swap hardware from another GT-S, install an engine of your choice (20V or 4AGZE), use Trueno sheetmetal and bumper. Voila! Really it is too nice to part out, and solid shells are getting hard to find now. If anyone from here picks up on the car, let me know. I grabbed a few things out of it (manuals, spare, trunk mat & false floor, jack, tool kit & pouch, new console lid installed a few years back and used sparingly since, factory exhaust tips$). They belong with the car if it ever goes back on the road. I even have a complete brand new correct decal set.
Nevermind the hood, check the door gaps along the roof.
I'm not trying to post-whore with this. Minesh (RedruM) has been trying to get his hands on the remains and has seen all this stuff in person several weeks ago. In case he doesn't latch onto it then you know why I'm posting this. Like I said, I know longer own the car and I have no more financial conection to it.
It still breaks my heart...

it looks worse in the pics than in person

An update: The car went to the Stouville yard. There is an auction this coming Tuesday (August 5th) but it will not be in that one. They said that it should make the auction that follows, August 19th (so that's every 2nd Tuesday). Stock # BU762. It's dealer only for these auctions. FYI.
