Thumbs up Tell me about '80s Corolla GT-S's

115hp doesn't exactly send chills down my spine, but they look really cool! I really like the RWD too.
I know that they turned into FWD cars sometime in the later 80's.. but when? Was '87 the last year for the RWD Corolla GT-S?
Do they have IRS or a solid axle? Do they handle well? Will it last me forever? How rare are the coupes (not hatchbacks)? How much do they cost?

I need a car and I think I'd like these so I think I want to try to find one!

Manual tranny only. Autos need not apply.

And if you think you're going to get 112 hp out of a mid eighties car, youve got another thing coming. The ae86 is powered by the torqueless 4age, my car will do about high 17's on the quarter mile. ive lost to minivans, buicks etc.

But damn i love my car.

They're slow but we love them to death!
There isn't much point trying to compare them to newer cars of today, everything on my car is 15 years old!!

80's Corollas are the perfect candidate to design your own turbo setup. Money will be invested, but I really wouldn't call it "a lot of money" compared to other projects.

My 82 Corolla wagon was running well with a Mitsu TD06-20G turbo and a 5-speed conversion. Now I'm on to research a new transplant to fit inside this engine bay.

The thing is that cars like these are projects. It's up to you how far you want to take them. The benefit is that the further you take them, the more you will learn....

...and the more you learn, the better you will build...

Good luck,

i'm so pissed that my dad sold my volvo, had donor cars lined up for m/t, v6 and turbo, grrrrrrrr

torque bar in the rear so easy to lower, heavier engine would have brought the front down, skirted back wheels, omg i had soooo many plans

oh boy... :o

who needs a 86 Rolla... when you can get a 86 Accord... it's just the same? ain't it?

less money to fix... tons of stuff out there to find... lots of aftermarket support... and it'll last 'til you and your grand-son dies...

you see... remember that AE86 Accord? just get that one... saves you TONES of $$...

first.. you get an 86 2 door Accord Hatch!... w/ those Flip up headlights... now.. ppl will say it's a HachiRoku...

... paint Black and White colour in body... put on some steelies... now.. everybody is drooling on you cuz you have a Panda styled car...

then put some "Tung Yuen ToFu Store" stickers on both sides.. saying you're delivering Tofu.. which means "Get OUT OF THE WAY"...! btw... get those "H" logos out... and custom make a "D" logo~! now you're a I-D hardcore driver...

thirdly... put those Ghey-Teeza tail lites on... ! now no one knows you're drivin' an Accord... ppl will know that you're driving a Lexus IS serious... or JDM Alteeza! wut a DEAL!

@ last... who needs a RWD when you can drift in a FWD... just put up hard E-brake when making turns... now YOU'RE DRIFTING~!!!
