99 Cassette & CD: No CD?

I'm sure this has been answered before but I searched and found nothing.

I bought a 99 Corolla that has a "type 3" headunit as shown in the owner's manual. It has an obvious cassette slot and controls for a CD but I can't see any CD slot anywhere.

I did read a comment somewhere on the web making fun of this but I want to check to be sure. Is there not really a CD player in this unit?

Thanks.

I think if there was a CD slot somewhere, Toyota wouldn't have made it so hard to find.. but who knows.

could it meant CD "control" meaning there should be a factory CD changer in the trunk?

My 01 had the same thing. Unless you don't have a CD changer in the trunk, you don't have a CD drive.

Your best bet is to get a new Headunit if you want to listen to CD's.

My I suggest A pioneer. I have had vey good luck with them.

The CD control is for either a factory 1 CD drive that takes up another DIN slot in the front, or a factory 6 CD changer in the trunk. There is also an aftermarket CD unit that plugs right in and can do MP3.

But with the $ needed to get one of these units you may be better off going aftermarket.

If I change anything it will be aftermarket. But if there is a CD player hidden, I'd like to know. Apparently it's not there based on Buurin's info.

LOL! look in the trunk, if there's a box there that looks like a CD changer then you got one.

I'm amazed that the previous owner or even the dealership didn't give you any info on this.

Just replace it with an aftermarket unit, chances are it only came with cassette.

If it was there, You would've found it by now..

Seriously, take the cassette player out and get a decent headunit with MP3 capability and put that in, who cares if there's an unfound cd player somewhere.
