95 Trans help

Im new to the site and I need some help installing my manual trans back. I baught a new clutch and flywheel for the car and some reason cannot get the trans to connect back with the motor. I have aligned it several times and have counted the flywheel teeth with the stock one to be sure everything was correct , it is. It is only maybe an inch from the block. Anyone know of any ideas? Thanks
Its a 1995 corolla dx 1.8 7afe 5speed

Did you use a pilot to align the new clutch plate?

I tried turning the engine and Yes i have the alignment tool. Neither worked, Iv taken the clutch and flywheel off multiple times thinking one of them were the wrong part ,but they line up perfect. it just doesnt want to slide on the rest of the way.

No i didnt do that. I was hoping to get around that , but it was on my list if worse came. It seems like a pain in the ass to drop it all?
