animal smell

The person that had my Rolla before me had a ferret or something... but it smells like I have a goat riding shot gun every time I turn the air on. Do any of you know any good ideas besides air fresheners bc I would like to fix the problem for good so I do not get the lama smell every time I need to turn the air on.

I have used ozium and some pricey air fresheners but it’s just patching the job up until I go and buy a new one.

Thanks,

B

if ozium did not work, then all I can suggest is removing the corpse.

wait...the ferret was in the car while he drove? thats horrible for you, but would be amazingly funny if I saw it in the road.

try to take it to a detail center. they might have a product that can clean it extremely well.

My guess it is not animal smell but that moldy/fishy smell you get sometimes when a little water sits in the AC. I don't remember the place but by manipulating the AC and fan before you shut down the car helps. I'm sure someone here can explain it better. Maybe in the Search files there is something. I had the same problem and it got better. Bingo

I do not think that it the smell from standing water because i have taken the carpets out and washed them with a rug doctor. I have seen the heater coils do that when they go bad or leak but this is not the case. The detail shops around me are a joke i think ozium is even out of thier price range lol . The smell is deffinayl that of an animal because when removing the carpets and such i found pet hair all over and it had a musty smell to it.

I am not sure on what your talking about as far as the ac goes not unless you are talking about the recirulateing button???

I hope it goes away i have even gotten to the point were i like rolling with the windows down more than turning the ac on

That sucks when its almost 90 degrees everyday.

OK check out this product by Turtle Wax Odor X. It works very well, and it does not just cover up odors. I have had people try many other things, but then I tell them about this product and they are like WOW that really does work.

Also what year is your car. You might want to try cleaning the air ducts as best you can and spray some Lysol down into them

check your cabin air filter, there's newer ones with baking soda or whatever in them to help freshen the air.

Hopefully the critter didnt soil the seats or "mark" his spot. If so then it may never come out. You say it only happens when you turn on the air..... Try replacing the A/C filter under the dash near the fan motor. While you are down there you may as well clean out your blower motor, it would probably help too.

alrighty then thanks man ill get hoping on that this weekend. Nothing was marked i think it is just all animal hair and i think by cleaning the filters it should eliminate the problem. Do you know how much of the dash i am going to have to take apart or anything of that sort?

check www.autozone.com repair guides. I don't know your year, but look on there in the 'general information and maintenance' section and it should mention your cabin air filter somewhere

Its a 2003 corolla s and they did not have any repiar manuals for my car. The earliest model is a 2000. However, i am not sure if it would be the same as far as location.

there also could be a small rodent that climbed into your HVAC tubes and died..you might have to find and extract him

God I hope that did not happen. I have seen a guy have a rat call up in there and have baby's once, and the next time he turned the ac on it sliced and diced all of them. But it does not smell like a rotting corpse or something that has been decomposed. Its just a lingering pet smell ya know?
