USA Exhaust hole :(

i have a couple holes in my exhaust cause the kid who had the car before me thought he was a mechanic and decided to drill holes in it for a "racing effect" but now time comes for inspection and i fail for a cracked windsheild which i fixed ($220 down the shitter) and i failed for emissions and my friend was behind me on the highway the other day and he said when i pin it white smoke comes out of the muffler, is this the emissions or is it something else? thanks in advance guys

wtf? is it just on the muffler, or throughout the whole system? some kids are just plain dumb. lol.

I would suggest patching those up with an exhaust repair kit and see if the white smoke goes away. It could be water vapor entering the stream through the "speed holes", turning to steam and then condensing again when it exits.

otherwise it could be the engine running rich (likely bad O2 sensor) or even coolant entering the combustion chamber

What does your failure report say? HC, NOx, sulphur, etc...that will help pinpoint what might be going on with the emmisions.

the patch kits might last a year at best. you'll have to actually fix the exaust by either welding patches on or replacing the affected parts. (or have a shop do it, whatever). I bet its embarrasing to barrel down the road sounding like a rusted out junker

the code for it is P0441

i hate NJ and their gay car laws

Have a low cost muffler installed at a muffler shop.

The white smoke could be oil blow by or something else.

P0441 Evaporation emissions control system incorrect purge flow

The fuel tank is sealed to prevent gasoline emissions. The charcoal canister absorbs any gas fumes, stores them. The fumes are then directed to the engine to be burned when running. The system has a pressure sensor to detect if the tank remains pressured. If the tank depressurizes, the code is tripped indicating an air leak someone or one of the system components is not working.

Problem areas with this code: Vacuum hose leaks in fuel tank in emissions control system. Check hoses to the charcoal canister and VSV systems. Canister could have leak, defective VSV for pressure sensor or EVAP, vapor pressure sensor, fuel tank overfull check valve. Also check the gas cap seal.

Check the seal on the gas cap first, then or broken, plugged or damaged hoses in this emission control system.

psh, IL has 'em too. stop whining sally's.

it's really a good thing though, the e-testing clues you into problems that you might not otherwise know about.

the holes can be patched up with a product called clay steel or something

its handled like clay but once dried, is super hard, withstands extreme temperatures, and resists chemicals
