Ok, So I have an 89 corolla DX. It has 180,000 on it so far and runs like a dream. I need to know if they make a short shifter for the 89 corolla sedan, and if they do where I can find it. Also.....the clutch/transmission is nearly shot. 4th gear is completly ground out. What exactly do I need to fix this? I would like to DIY so should I buy this?
Is this what Im looking for? http://usedautoparts.everdrive.com/p...spx?sku=325521
Man that is expensive...... and what else will i need? that stuff in the first post im assuming. so about 550 in parts.....another what 500 in labor?!?!?
There are tons of places in Georgia that seem to sell Japanese motors, get the phone book and start calling some of these places, half the time they put their motors on Ebay.
You can find the transmission a lot cheaper than that, specially C52s from the 88-91 GTS or the C56 from the Silver/Black top 20V motors, a lot of the AE86 guys doing 20V swaps into their cars usually end up with spare FWD transmissions that they have no use for, so start looking there and you will probably find one cheap.
short shifter, the only one made that will work in your car is the one made by TRD, i don't think any are available in north America unless you get someone to sell you theirs. one can be ordered, but it has to be sent from japan, and costs like $180.
it was made for the gts, but works for the sedan exactly the same.

Wow thats kind of a rip off for a short shifter, but im curious as to where you order it from?
Check on Ebay man, I've seen about 3 different places selling Toyota motors and parts out of Georgia.
Direct bolt in means the motor will fit on the motor mounts without having to custom build anything, however you will have to figure something out with the exhaust, fuel system and wiring of the motor.
My buddy use to make short shifters. He made tercel shifters and our corolla assembly is very similar. Need to heat up the ball joint (with a blow torch), straighten out the shifter (as it's at an angle, then hammer down the shifter rod while it's still hot. It's a simple level mechanism so you'll end up shortening the height as well as shortening your throw.
