Testing / Repairing Power Windows on 2000 corolla

I have a 2000 Corolla and both of the driver side windows are stuck and not working. I opened the back door and pulled the motor out. I don’t know anything about electrical stuff so can someone please explain to me the tools and steps I need to take to diagnose the problem.

Check for 12V at the lead going to the window motor when the switch is depressed. If you have 12V there, the motor is probably bad. You can hook up 12V directly from the battery to the window motor just to double check. If you dont have 12V at the lead going to the window motor, check for a faulty switch. Do that and then post back if you have more questions.

Thanks for your reply. So I hook up a 12v test light to where the motor is supposed to be plugged in and press the switch for the window to go up/down. (The plug has 2 little connectors, does it matter to which one i hook it up to?)
Can you please explain how I would test the window motor itself? How would I manage to hook it up directly to the car battery?

to test the motor for the window get a 12v line and plug it on one prong and take a ground wire and plug it into the other prong and that will move the motor in one direction. to move the motor in the other direction swap the two wires around on the prongs... hope this helps.
