Vibration Noise

I just bought a 94 Corolla with 110,000 miles on it (1.6 liter). The only problem with it is there is a loud vibration noise that starts at around 60 mph and gets worse the faster I go. I had it aligned, and put new tires on the back. The noise is from the front but the front tires look good. The wierd thing is when I put it in neutral, the noise goes away, so I would think that rules out wheel bearings or tire noise, even though that's what it sounds like. The axles are tight, so I don't think that's the problem. I visually looked at the engine and transmission mounts, and the look ok. What else could be causing this noise?

I hate to say it, but maybe it's the transmission or the torque converter. The fact that it goes away when it's in neutral seems to eliminate most everything else I can think of. Maybe CV joints could generate a vibration, but I would think they would also make noise at low speeds.

my cv joints are in need of repair and make noise at lower speed but not higher speeds, if that helps

I really can't see how there would be an internal problem with the transmission, it shifts perfect and the fluid looks and smells clean. Plus the guy I bought it from babied the car. Is it possible that the mounts need replaced? Do they get soft after a while? I know they look intact, but who knows?
