Question Question about 7A-FE

I am changing the timing belt on a 93 Corolla (7A-FE engine), I took the valve cover off, removed both cams, removed the left hand motor mount (it wont come off without that being removed) then realized I have to remove the crank pulley as well. Anyone have any tips on hold the crank (stop it from turning) while loosening the bolt? I'm stuck when it comes to removing the oil pan and putting a cresent wrench on the crank itself (how I did it when I rebuilt the engine) because I have the jack there holding the engine up. Any ideas?

If it is a manual have someone hold the brake on while it is in fourth gear.

I feel pretty stupid, I should have warned you to be sure you don't "drive it" off the jack stands by turning the crank with it in gear. You no doubt have the RF wheel off so it should not have been an issue, but that is something to be mindful of. One of those things best not learned the hard way.

You will probably have to really stand on the brakes to torque the crank pully bolt, I did it about three weeks ago on a 4AFE.

and with an automatic i'll just have to use an impact gun i suspect? how easily did the puller remove it once the bolt was off? mines fairly rusted and i'm afraid it wont come off the crank easily or that the 2 holes the puller bolts thread into are soo rusted they'll just pull right out!

An impact gun would work but I would worry about over torquing it back on. My pulley came of easily with a puller. Spray some PB blaster in those bolt holes and hour or so before.

theres two holes for M8 bolts in the crank wheel. Thats where you put the toyota SST (special service tool) to hold the crank, just make it yourself from flatbar.
