take a picture of the engine bay so we can see what engine you have. your in Aus right? you guys got alot of different engines that we didnt see over here. im sure all of the engines you guys had as options are twin overhead cam though, E and A series. most likely a 4afe or 4age though.
it should say the motor model no. on the inside of the hood usually right side
I'm pretty positive it's a DOHC 4af so you can either go carbie n/a (hard) or i would swap the motor for a jap 4agze the supercharged variant, almost twice the hp and tq
if your not so serious i would just do suspension and call it a day

Well, your in Australia so parts about a million times easier to find you should visit twincam.org they do lots of gze swaps and it seems like everyon in in aus.
The GZE is a great power plant for anything up to moderate performance and the best part is that it ran in a corolla levin in japan!!!
You can either source the motor witch usually comes from a late 80's (88-89) mr2 with tranny e-50 i think, ecu and harness.
Or the more expensive route, probably easier especially for your location to obtain a front or half cut of an ae92 RARE or most likely front cut of ae101 ae111(93-97) GTZ you will have extra stuff you will probably have to sell but it insures:
You have everything that motor needed to run stock in that car
Gives you a better idea of condition of motor.
$$$
motor and tranny looking around 900 to 1600US depending on a few things, mostly shipping!
there is tons of info on the web for rebuild and what not but unless your doing it yourself it isn't too cheap.
the cut can run 2000 and up but not over3
Well dude, that engine is going to bollocks on the track but will do quite good as a daily drive and you should get a new engine for the price of trying to make the carbied engine fast...
You should browse around for a built 4A-GE 16V redtop, base 4A-GE 20V blacktop/silvertop, 4A-GZE (supercharged), or a built ready for turbo 7A-FE 16V 1.8L... These engines will fit the AE92 with ease and matchup well with the 5spd.
The best upgrades of the AE92 are the:
(in best to not really needed order)
Suspension (too soft and old for the engine)
Tires (you wont like to use those 13"s to race, upgrade to 15"s- 17"s)
Engine/drivetrain (you'll just want to...)
Seats (too old and soft for the engine swap)
Lighting (they are crappy when stock)
Sounds (you might want to get rid of the OEM radio and speakers)
Paint "interior" (the color just sucks! paint it to look like a new "Kia" atleast)
also, type AE92 on google and you should find the stuff you need.
Yes I'd say older cars are the only ones I would seriously mod. New cars are a major waste of money to upgrade as all parts if any just came out. come on
I just love these threads with noobies who know how to make power by stating mods you can google or read from import magazines. ....very boring to go that route.
Nothing wrong with using the current engine as a base engine..it can be made powerful.
yea, if i wasn't putting my 4afe into my older ae92 i'd consider boost but i'd rather start with a motor built for induction... i'm sick of seeing all these guys put the gze pistons in the 4age a little redundant unless you're running crazy compression or something
thanx stax for your help guys, if you have input please tell me lol i can use all the help i can get, another thing, does anyone know how to tell if a triming belt is broken or is just due for a new one without taking it all off?
