I am not sure how to do it since my car is still under warranty. Why do you need to take the fuel pump out?

I would strongly recommend having a mechanic professionally attempt it.

the basic warranty is over, the dealer won't cover the cost anymore, they want $780 for the pump, totalling $1100 for including labor..i got a quote from one of the parts guy for the pump, its only going for $314 and he can give me a discount putting it at $269...i own 2 other cars which are a 90 st185 and an 87 ae82 which i have done all the works to them because i trust no one....i only ask of this because i've never seen anything like it...when i was on the celica forums, there FSU cover have 8 bolts holding it down...but when i look at the rolla, its got a twist on type of ring that holds it down...reason why i'm doing it is because i need to test the pump to see if its still working, the car cranks but no gas, i've pull fuel line to check for gas and surely enough no gas. i've checked all fuses and relay, with a test light they all work and the relay clicks as it should...i've had similar problem on my st185 also but it was accessable so i fixed it, just had to drop the whole tank though.... thanks for being curious and bumping the post

The bolt

Get the fuel pump out and test it, before dumping money into into it. Its not hex keys or Torque keys that you needed.....

According to the manual, you just have to unbolt it and it should come right out. If it really is the lock ring type, just use a small block of wood and a rubber mallet to tap and gently tap the ring. I can email you the manual if you want.

wow, this is the reason why i'm still on this forum, we need more people like you.

if you guys head over to the camry section, all you see are flamers, looks like they need to be taught from the corolla guys.

thanks, i greatly appreciate the help....as for tapping the ring i've tried that plenty of time it won't even budge...i forgot to mention that the ring is about 7-71/2in in diameter...it also have teeths on the outer portion of the ring, like a gear....but there is very little room to work in....actually at this point i really can't even say if its a twist on, but i've dealt with enough cars to know the difference....if you could email me the info i'd gladly appreciate it...i'll probably try to take a pic of it and post it up....you can send the info to: team_initial_d@hotmail.com
thanks in advance

ps: i hope that the information you have covers the Xrs corolla models
