Whats up ladies and gents. Well i'm in the market for a small car since my commute to work and home is 80 miles a day. I went to the dealership to trade in my 2000 Maxima with 170k miles but the dealer wanted to give me $800 for my car. So I decided to sell it on my own. It sold in 2 days for $4000. Real happy about that. In any case, i've been searching for a used Corolla 2001 and up. It seems that the price varies from 7000 to 14000 for a decent clean corolla with less then 40k miles. I also would like one in 5 spd. I also found that Nissan Sentra between 2001 to 2006 are A LOT cheaper. There're tons of 05 Sentras with 30k miles for 10000. My question is, I don't drive anything but Jap cars but is the Corolla still really Japanese? I know they're assembled in Canada but is the quality still as good as the older gen corollas? Any kind of help would be appreciated.
Sounds good. Would I be better of buying an AUTO or 5 spd as far as reliablitiy goes? Another word, does it matter or the auto tran outlasts the 5 spd?
Not really, I would actually rather drive a 5spd anyways.. I'd say get an 03-04 Corolla S (NOT Type S! ) or if you can find one and afford it, get an 05-06 Corolla XRS.
My budget is 12gz for a new Toyota. Matter of fact I just got back from the dealership. They had a 00 with 32k miles and the asking price was 10gz. Before I walked out of the door the salesperson offered 8gz.
Another dealership had a 03 Camry with 50k miles fully loaded minus leather the asking price is 13gz. The dealership was willing to let it go for 11gz.
The same place also had a 01 Solara LE v4 with 40k miles also fully loaded minus leather and the asking price was 12gz. The guy was willing to let that go for 10gz.
My commute is 80 miles per day, 40 each way. I know I could have gotten more for my maxima because it was SE with ALL the options minus navigation. But my max was in an accident 2 years ago where the front chasy was bent. Although it was fixed but the bumper still had a few scratches and the hood/bumper was misaligned. On top of that the check engine light was on due to bad 02 sensors and a bad pre-cat. So I figured 4gz would be a fair deal. I would love to stay in the Nissan family but last year we have purchased a Lexus GX470 and ever since then i've fallen in love with the toyota/lexus family. On top of that the new 08 Sentras are absolutely HORRIBLE looking. By the way, when does the 10th gen corollas come out? Do you guys happen to have a pic of it? How nicely/badly is it redesigned?
You sound like you know what you are doing, just keep researching and searching....you'll be able to get what you want..... I got my 2008 Corolla S for $17,600...final total was $20k...stupid I could of got it for less... The full coverage for the car was less than a full coverage for a 1998 Honda Civic EX... by $200 bucks

Hehe thanks. But I don't think you got a bad deal due to the fact that the dealers are stiff about the price on their 2007 and 2008 models. I know that the dealers are a lot more flexible on the price for used corollas rather then the brand new ones.
Quick question guys, around how many miles is it required to change the timing belts and water pump?

A lot of my crazy latino friends told me I should of brought $8,000 cash for the deposit, I could of got the entire car for $16,000 easy....I told them who in this day and age have $8,000 cash....I not one of them..... I was lucky to get a very good dealer...he was very cool and let me drive the crap out of the car.....I should of drifited the car....
Back to the original question....I change would change the timing belts and water pump every 60,000 miles.....the parts are dirt cheap, but the labor is :h ammer:
Not sure about the water pump but 06-08 & possibly 03-04 timing chains are good for 120K
Timing chain? I thought all corollas use timing belts?
I know for a fact that my Maxima had a timing chain which didn't need replacement until 150k and even then i drove the car to 170k miles w/o any problems.
PS - I have 8gz cash . Which i am using next year for an engagement ring for my lady.

Actually its the other way around. You can talk down the price more for new than used. The 9th generation chassis has been around for a while so they should give you better deals so they can clear their inventory for the 10th generation which should come later. I'm not sure exactly on its release but late 08.
For your commuting needs I would go for the 9th gen Corolla. Your budget allows it.
The look is personal preference as I like the look of the 9th generation exterior wise but interior with all its goodies and gadgets I'd go with the 10th gen.
