Oil change places

So I have yet to change my oil on my corolla for the first time and I was wondering if there generally are more reputable places than others..Like I know they range from the standard mechanic shops to Canadian Tire to Jiffy Lube and all those..so..? Any input?

why not save the money and change the oil yourself? its an easy task. just the oil filter is an slighty hard task if you dont have the tools like an adjustable oil filter wrench. But its really easy.

Hmm..well I've never changed the oil in my car before, so I'd rather take it somewhere and watch..so back to my original question..

changing the oil isn't too bad. a bit more expensive than some deals you can get at any moment, but in the long run, you can save money.

The same price!!

The dealership price is the same as the local auto shops!!! Don't go to a speedy lube job place like Tavel explain.....Make sure you ASK them what BRAND of oil they use!!! That very important!!!

The average Grease Monkey price range for a oil change is $35-$45 dollars!!!!!

Go anywhere that doesn't use Penzoil or Quaker State. I would also go to a local mechanic if I were you. They'll be more likely to let you watch in a way that you can understand, and they'll also be more likely to catch any other issues that might pop up. It's also a good way to get to know a mechanic in case you need him in the future.

Please don't feed the stealership. It just encourages them.

he forgot

Step 3. since you don't work at a shop and have no access to the proper ways to disposing of oil, put it back in an empty bottle and throw it in a garbage bin... or better yet, throw it down the sewer system.

If you do your own oil, do it the right way and pay a fee to a shop or a dump to dispose of the oil.

What wrong with Pennzoil, are you talking about the lube franchise or the oil?

I've used Pennzoil along with Castrol for years without any problems, I'd rank it right up there as one of the better oils...JMO

Hahaha and how old are you? Pennzoil is pretty much at the bottom of any reputable mechanics list of sh** oils along with quakerstate vavoline,gas-station oils(exon)and Mobil probably being the best conventional oil for wear and castrol being best power giving synthetic.

If you have never changed oil in a car, don't worry about which oil is the best. They all do the same thing, you will never know the difference. None is going to hurt your engine. The most important thing for you to remember and practice is to have the oil changed at the reccomended intervals. If the oil is changed regularly, your engine will last as long as is expected.

Not everybody has the tools, place or aptitude to do their own maintenance, but every body can have it done.

Talk to friends or neighbours and get several opinions on places near you. Some of the big chain oil change places have good reputautions and some have bad, but it all comes down to the guy doing the job, and his supervisor's attitude.

One big name shop might be untrustworthy, and another with the same name ten blocks away might be very good.

While you are there have them check your brakes and tires.

Good luck. Drive happy.
