4th Generation The "new" wagon

1982 TE72 Corolla Wagon, 130,000k I JUST got it so I'm still feeling it out. I'm also a bit of noob so I welcome your advice, feedback.

So far, (knock wood) the biggest problem is the insane amount of air freshener the prev. owner used. I can't get the smell out!! Any ideas? I cannot abide by the perfume cakes found under the seat plus Vanillaroma.

Anybody ever put new carpet in themselves? How much does getting that replaced usually run?

The A/C is also musty but is ice cold.

It's also a little wobbly when I approach 65, I'm hoping air in the tires will help with that. Some are low and the back ones need replacing. Otherwise, alignment?

this reminds me of the te72 that was at the wrecker that I wanted, except the one I saw was a coupe, tiny car :|

Now there is a te31 (or is it 32?) sitting there that has the front fender all smashed in, awesome looking little cars, makes me want to get one HAHAH

Nice wagon you have there, especially you have the a/c. Are you got it from e-bay? Because I saw one that look the same as yours on ebay a while ago.

For the air freshener, I think park under the sun with your window down can get rid of the smell???

For the wobbly, if you going to replace the tire, get you wheel balance as well then go and get the alignmant then it will be fix (assume there is nothing bent on the suspension component and the rims).

For the carpet, you can get it from ebay (the max price that I saw is around $120 max from ebay). It's not that hard to replace the carpet by yourself just time consuming (taking out the seat, center console, door still trim).

Btw, I have one as well but it's an 83 (with 4ac instead of 3tc).

Here is mine:

Thats the same year model and color of the Corolla that my grandmother has...it was formerly my Mom's. It has 390,000 miles on it, so be prepared to keep it a while.

Yours is in much better shape. My grandmothers has been sitting in the GA sun since 1990 so the paint is pretty faded, and the dash wasnt always fully reassembled after people worked on things. Everything, especially the AC, still works like a charm tho.

That 3TC has a kick to it when its kept properly tuned up. It is by deffinition a Hemi, so you might want to get yourself some badges for when you pull up next to a Dodge

If it is feeling wobbily around 65 it is most likely your tires...not bad air pressure, you just need new ones. 13" wheels are pretty picky about tires.

Does yours have the 3 speed or 4 speed auto? Ive heard the 4 speed was optional on the 82, but have never run into someone who had it.

Good eye, yes it's from Ebay. Got tired of looking for one locally... they didn't exist! Actually, they do, but my friend Madison owns them all and they weren't in this good of shape.

I'm going to get some new tires, it needs them in the back for sure. Thanks!

Your wagon looks great, this one came with the roof rack disassebled which I want to put back on.

The 4 speed auto is only optional on 2 door hard top, 2 door coupe and 1981 4 door sedan DX model, other (I mean wagon, 4 door sedan, 2 door sedan and 2 door liftback) can only have the 3 speed auto as an option.

It's not that great now since I got rear end by a tundra two years ago and I still try to looking for parts to fixing it. It sooooooo hard to find parts for wagon (although there are plenty for sedan)!

I got new tires on Monday and that helped the handling a lot. Yes, it's a 3 speed auto. I'm going to attempt the inspection tomorrow. I think they're gonna kick it back on account of the exhaust system, but we'll see.

Which parts did you find hard to get for your wagon?

I can't wait to get the roof rack back on mine. Love the way that looks.

taillights and rear bumper assembly, I already went through three sets of taillights but all of them have cracks and scretches.......everytime the seller said it is mint but when I received it they got cracks..... dealer told me both item are discontinued for a long......so my wagon right now still have a crack taillingt and a non align rear bumper.....

but while I try to find the taillight for my wagon, surprisely I found a set of brand new oem a/c kit....=)

that is lame, i hope you left lots of negative feedback.

do you have a photo that shows the top of your car more fully? My bodyshop friend's going to help me put the roof rack back on and wants a visual. I'm looking around for a nice clear photo of the wagon with roof rack attached.

That's in a good shape for an 82 car.
