Cool No EGR Valve in my 94 Corolla???

Hey all,

I replaced the ECM in my 1994 Corolla wagon (7A-FE). I pulled it out of a car at a junk yard. A few days later I get a code 71 referrring to my EGR system. I went to look at
my EGR valve and low and behold....No EGR valve. I've never heard of this before.
Now my "new" ECM is looking for an EGR valve that apparently doesn't exist.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks,

Paul

yeah well your ECM is from a different vehicle with EGR, so you really cant use it without one.

according to the sae paper(981087) on the development of the 1zzfe(03-08 corolla) these engines did not require an egr system due to their inherent cleanliness.the paper further states that the engine is capable of meeting US TLEV regulations without the catalytic converters

The problem is the paper is about 1ZZ when the Paul says he's dealing with a 7A. Totally different engines.

ok 7a's fall into 4 categories

-1993 - 1995.5 (US,CAN,Federal) OBD 1, no crank sensor, no EGR, 1 cataytic converter and adjustable distributor

-1993 - 1995.5 (Califonia) OBD 1, No crank sensor, has EGR, 2 catalytic converter, and adjustable distributor

1995.5 - 1997 (US,CAN,Federal) OBD 2, Has crank sensor, has EGR, 1 cataytic converter and non-adjustable distributor

1995.5 - 1997 (California) OBD 2, Has crank sensor, has EGR, 2 cataytic converter and non-adjustable distributor

my conclusion is that you may have the california version ECM

good information...

holy crap. this information just helped me solve my problem. i am in California and couldn't pass smog (high NOX), but very low HC and CO readings.

After determining that my car doesn't have EGR, I realized that the reason is my car was originally purchased in Missouri.

So I have no EGR to tweak, and only 1 catalytic converter. Therefore, I will probably have to buy a new Cat every 2 years ........................................

I hate California by the way, all these rich people driving V8 Escalades, Mercedes, BMWs, Porches, Ferrarris, and the government won't even let me drive a 4 banger corolla that gets 30 MPG. Jeebus christ

in fact, i'm not even sure the 1.8l dx was even sold in CA since I can only find front Cats for the 1.6l
