Vibration issue on 1994 Pri/Cor

First, how do tell what size engine I have in my 94 Geo Prizm? A vin guide anywhere?

Second. I have a vibration issue at idol. I had a friend start the car and watched the engine turn over looking for movement and the only thing I tell is a little movement on the driver side. Also severe vibration when I accelerate and turn right turns (worse when faster). When I coast through making a right turns its fine. I only get the vibration when accelerating. It’s so bad I dread turning to the right.

I checked past treads and it sounds like an engine mount for the vibration and a CV joint for the turns but I would think the vibration was continue regardless of accelerating or not.

Please help, I’m new to the Prizm and Corolla family.

Thanks, I love the site so far!!

Sounds like motor mounts to me, probably the driver side one if you're seeing movement on that side. Have a friend put his foot on the brake and give it a bit of gas while you watch from the outside. If the engine looks like it's trying to come out, you need motor mounts.

If its a 1.6L motor it's a 4AFE, if its a 1.8L motor it's a 7AFE; the sticker under the hood should specify the information I just gave you.

The sticker under the hood is missing stating the engine ID number. Any other ways to locate?

I started to rev the engine from under the hook over and over, and I didn't see much movement from the engine. I was expecting to see as much movement as a reving small block v8 but nothing. I used a breaker bar to listen to the alt, engine and other part for noise but nothing.

Could there be anything else causing vibration? Perhaps the timing chain? I need to replace that too. I'm pushing 150k miles.

In regards to your engine. Do you have the automatic, and if so, is it a 3 speed, or a 4 speed with an overdrive button on the shifter. The 1.6 came with the 3 speed, and the 1.8 with the 4.
