Oil leak from Timing chain tensioner

Hi,

I have 99 corolla 114K mileage.. after last oil change(20-may-07) there is a oil drop($ coin size) whenever i park my car. i belive it is NOT leaking once it is parked... because when i notice oil drop after few hours or in the morning after overnight parking... the oil is spread and almost dried in the ground... only the mark remains.

I went for a inspection(pep boys 45 days back), he said the oil is leaking from timing chain tensioner and it costs $450 to fix. He did add dye and said he will fix this first and look for further leaks if any

I used to check the oil level every week. the oil level is at the full mark for the past few months.

Recently another mechanic looked(only visual) and said the oil is leaking from oil pan gasket.

Is the leak from timing chain tensioner requires immediate attention.... I prefer to wait for some more time to fix it as $500 is big money for me.

your advice is appreciated.. have a nice day

As long as you monitor your oil level, it shouldn't be a big deal. I think the mechanic (although I wouldn't call people working at Pep Boys mechanics) is referring to your timing chain cover leaking. The timing chain tensioner itself has an o-ring around it and is a very simple fix.

thanks a lot....

pep boys said exactly what you mentioned... timing chain tensioner oil ring should be fixed and it cost $450 .... do he need to remove the timing chain cover to fix this?? (he said 4 hrs for this).

how much would be the nominal cost for this?... Midas and Firestone are close by as well as independent mechanics/repair shop. who is best any idea?

thanks again
