Question 2-speed engine fan?

Overheating problem, I've eliminated, t-stat, had a flush/fill, sprayed out front. It's just when over 60mph, over 80 degrees, and when the sun is out. So I'm down to temp sensor or clogged radiator. The fans come on fine, but I don't know if it's a 2-speed fan and if so, what triggers it to go to the high speed? 94, 1.6 liter.

probably the waterpump and not the fans that are the problem, I don't think it's got a 2speed fan either.

Well, it did get a new water pump 2.5 years ago, and it started the next summer...but how could that cause it? The belts are tight, no leaks, no noise. I thought the pump either pumped or didn't or leaked? I'm thinking of just blowing it off, since I'm in Minnesota and hot weather will be ending soon. Then it's perfect. Also, 203K miles, but still runs great, as all yall know.

propeller is disconnected from the shaft.

But I'm not all too sure this is the cause, as it should overheat all the time if the pump isnt working.

try this check with the engine cold take off the rad cap (fluid should be covering the top of the core if not top up) now start the car and run the engine up to normal temperature as the temperature gets hott you will notice a huge increase in flow across the open rad cap, soon after the fan should come on and the temp shouldn't go any higher..

Problems

- soon as you start engine while cold the rad starts over flowing = Rad plugged try reverse flushing it or replace it

- never see huge change in flow across open rad cap flowed by overheating = bad thermostat

- Fan never comes on and over heats = bad fan, fan relay, or fan switch.

It is only a single speed fan also if the water pump is only 2.5 years old theres no good reason for it to be bad,

you could also check the water pump fairly easily, take the belt off and turn it with your had you should feel a fluid like resistance, if you dont and/or the pump keeps spinning after you give it a good turn then it may be the pump but i doubt it..
