Please help - A/C failed...& it's HOT!!!

Whilst driving the girlfriend's 96 Corolla yesterday, the A/C stopped blowing cool air & the green "A/C" light went out.
Sounded to me like the electrical circuit went out, but all fuses look good.

What should I look for next?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Well first of course check fuses but u said u checked them, make sure u checked them all under the hood and under the dash, then make sure u have enought freeon in ur system to turn the AC compressor on, if the level gets low the compressor will not even turn on...

Exclamation

freon doesn't wear out,, It either leaked out of compressor, blew up and / or froze due to wear.

Freon doesnt wear out, you're right, but the system does deplete its supply by time. IT might just need a regular refill.

It's my understanding that, because it is a closed system, it cannot run out of freon without having a leak.
