Odour in A/C

it is a 99 Corolla.... 114K

when i switch on the the A/C in the morning (or after few hrs of last run) some bad smell(kind of air coming from stagnant water) is coming for few seconds.

if I run the fan alone for a few mins after shutting the A/C, the next day I wont see the smell. if i just shut the A/C and fan .. next day I see the smell.

If the A/C is not running for fewdays... there wont be any smell from the vents.

the A/C cooling is ok. any idea what could be wrong??

one more thing is there any filter for the A/C... if so, cleaning it will help??

i searched under the glove i was not able to find any.

thanks

It's due to moisture in the vents. I know with mine its a moldy smell. Run the fan for a few minutes after you turn the a/c off it should dry it out. They also sale stuff to spray in your vents to help get the smell out. But if you did that I would still continue to run the fan for a few minutes.
