Repack Wheel Bearing?

Hi everyone!

My 1999 Corolla CE automatic is about to hit 120,000 miles. The owners manual says that among other things, I am supposed to have the wheel bearings repacked. What is that, and is that a job I can do myself? (I am not a real skilled mechanic here, though I have some tools and I'm learning.) What should this job cost (DC - NoVa area) if I am paying a professional? Thanks.

Ron

put grease in and on the wheel bearing. you need to get wheel bearing grease at a autostore. they have little kits that can two at a time i think.

I didn't think you repacked fwd bearings... I thought you replaced them. Usually you repack rwd front wheel bearings when you do the brakes

You do them in the back, dunno about the fronts. However I've never repacked my bearings.

yeah and once you push them out they are finished. You don't need a press. You can do it with an impact gun as well, easier and no need to remove the nuckle.
Well I guess in a way it's a press, but yeah lol
