New Wheels - Seeking Experience/Advise

Have stock wheels and tires 175/65/14. Am considering switching to 205/45/16. Was wondering if any one has done this (or something close) and if so any pros/cons you can share with me?

Thanks in advance.

What car???

I have 205/50/15 on my AE86 and there is a little bit of rubbing when people are in the car and the wheels is cranked all the way to one side. Personally, on an 86 I wouldnt go higher then 15"...it just doesnt suit the car...get some 14' or 15's with some dish

I've seen an Australian AE86 Levin riding on 18's, very extreme.. but they fit. If I find the site I will post it.

Sorry clearly that is an important piece of info, it is a 2000 Corolla. Reason for 16 inch is that I am concerned 15 just isn't enough to improve cornering. The car is basically for going to work and back, so I am the only one in the car. Maybe once a month I have 1 passenger, maybe once a year I have 4 people.

if grip and cornering is your concern then why not go wider with a 215 tire
something like a 215/45/16 if that exists but if not go with 215/40

Make sure you find out what the offset on your car is and if it could take 215 or 205's...

I have a 1990 Corolla and I had to put spacers on the back because my 205/40/16 were rubbing against the struts.

* Remember, the wider tires you put the more traction you get, which also means more gas useage. *

Those should fit. I have seen a bazillion guys on vvti.net and corollacustomz.com with gen8 Rollas and 16s. many even go bigger than that. A popular one is the 16" Rota Slipstreams. Maybe PM "bzride" he is the CC founder and posts here as well. I think he has a 98 but that's the same body and he has at least 16s on his car I think...

I did it!

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts I ended up putting 205/45/16's on Toyo Proxes FZ4 tires with ADR Excel wheels. Had a budget to work within so went cheaper on wheels and spent more on the tires.

Initial driving is 100% better then before, the bounciness is gone, I can still sqeal the tires off the line but can't when shifting to 2nd and 3rd gears. Corner handling is much better, tires don't squeal on the corners and the feeling of roll on the corners is significantly less then before. Tomorrow I will be doing some highway driving which is 90% of my driving.

Thanks to all for your thoughts. Next modifications is shocks and air intake but I will post separate threads seeking info on these topics.

Thanks to all.
Brad
P.S. The car just looks better as well!
