Australia Rear brake pad removal (pics)

Hi all,
I'm going to replace the rear brake pads on my 97 corolla, and have followed the 'Gregory's' manual, but it doesn't make a great deal of sense.

With the pic below, I've removed the guide pin bolt at point 1, and the manual then says that the caliper body should rotate upwards. However, as I look at it, there are several other points where the caliper body is joined (e.g point 2).

Can somebody advise what else I may need to loosen/remove to rotate the body upwards to access the pads?

Thanks - I've looked in the camry on-line manuals, and it says the same thing as the Greg's one. Strange...

Thanks a million - pic below...

i've never worked on a corolla rear disc set-up...but if its anything like my sentra's rear discs...it's pretty much the same as the front (except for the hand brake cable).

removing bolt 1 and it's counterpart on top is the first step. those are the caliper pins that hold the caliper onto the bracket. remove the caliper and hang it from the suspension with some wire so it doesn't flop around and damage the brake line.

then you remove the braket to access the pads. you can now change your rotor too, if you require.

But before getting started, you'll probably want to compress the piston with a c-clamp before trying to pull the pads off, there's usually a lip on the rotor that's hard to muscle past.

Don't have time to do a circle of the bolt but if you look at the top of the caliper (behind it) sorta where the top hose is pointing to. Your gonna need to take that out as well. After that it should be free, might need a bit of taps from a rubber mallet to set it free. After that should be self explanatory.

There is no counterpart on the top, theres just a slidebushing there.

Bolt #2 just holds the handbrake cable, dont remove it, hes right you just remove #1 and it should swing upwards.

OK - thanks for the tips - will have another go tomorrow - just felt really stiff when I'd taken that bottom bolt out, as if there was something else stopping it from budging....

Yep - stoopid me left the handbrake on. It is just a matter of taking out the bolt at point 1 above, the whole thing rotates up - nothing else needed.
thanks again for the tips.

Thats different, what if the calipers need servicing. How will the calipers be taken out?

Thats a negative, fronts are bolted from the top and bottom.

You just open the bottom and slide it out, the top will just slide out.
