New tires for an 01 corolla

I need new tires for my 01. The ones I have now are cheapo $39 tires.

I would like something with a Alot less road noise, and better handling.

Also, Would wider tires help me in grip handling?

go with anything H-rated, better handling than all seasons and less noisy.

I do not have dedicated winter tires.
I really don't plan on using them.

Where I live, In New Jersey, We get maybe 2 - 5 days a year with snow on the roads. SO for me, It's not really needed.

Would going wider help me? Im riding on the 14" steelies still, and not sure if that would fit.

What size should I be looking for?

BFGoodrich Traction T/A T's, probably 175/65/14's. I havent had good experiences with khumos or yokohamas.

Hey, if you're upgrading your tires go from the original wobble sized 175/65-14s to the sportier 185/60-14 or if you feel spendy go with the 195/55-14s, you'll notice the difference in handling but you'll also notice the bumps more.

Most brands have different handling in different conditions, most performance tires handle great in dry conditions, some handle like crap in the rain, some handle like crap all the time, some are good in rain/snow, etc. It depends on brand really, I found the Kumho 711s that I had were pretty good rain or dry for the money that I paid for them, but most of the performance oriented guys think they don't handle as good as they could on dry.

I also have a set of Michelins XGT-V currently on my car and they're OK on dry, but god forbid someone spit on the road cause they handle like shit!

width/height% - wheel size

the height of the wheel is usually a percentage of the width, so a 185/60-14 would be a 14inch tire, 185mm(I think it's mm) wide with a height of 60% of the width (185x.6 = 111mm)

I could never get the khumo's properly balanced to where there was always vibration at hwy speeds. Many people on tirerack have complained of similar problems. Similar experience with the yoko's and they didnt last long at all either. The goodrich t/a's work better for me. Theyre a little more expensive but Ive found that buying cheaper tires costs me more money and time in the end trying to get them balanced.

What is the stock width of the tires?

I went to go look and I did not see it on the side of the tire.
I only saw the PSI requiremtns and numbers that meant nothing to me.
