Hi, first time poster here, my names Aaron, im from London Ontario, Canada.
Looking at buying an 08 corolla S, Currently driving my moms 2003 Acura 3.2 TL type S a spec bla bla bla.
I know dropping from the acura to the corolla is a large drop, but i found it particularily smooth and nice, especially for the price. I do however have a few questions about the finer details and would appreciate some input from anyone with experience in this model.
1. Cant help it folks, but driving for 4 years in the acura spoiled me for the seats! im used to driving in nice leather buckets with lumbar supports and all the bells and whistles. When you drop to the corolla theyre well..... not as PLUSH as i was hoping.
My question is: has anyone swapped in some nice aftermarket buckets? im talking for the front only. something that is nice and comfy, but doesnt look too different from the back bench?
2. Transmission? Auto or Standard?
If i buy this car, i plan on keeping it till she dies! Im no mechanic but after warranty goes id be planning to do regular maintenance. Oil, Transmission, Rad, etc etc etc.
Im comfortable with either standard or automatic, just wondering if either of the trannys is notorious for being Really strong and bombproof, or weak and a design flaw.
As it sits, a corolla S with a single disc cd changer is about 22 thousand canadian.
I can opt for a 6pack cd changer, mp3 player plugin for some extra cash... would you suggest using toyota factory installed components? or is there better aftermarket gear.
Thats all the questions i have for now, i appreciate any info that you folks shoot my way.
I myself went from HONDA to Toyota...so I feel you on the ACURA situation . I currently purchased a new 2008 Toyota Corolla S a few weeks ago. For what I paid for my Corolla S, I could of got the XRS model (US Corolla Top Model) .
Here are a few of my reasons why I choose a Corolla:
1.) The price range was in my salary.
2.) LOW THEFT rate!
3.) The current gas price.
4.) Full Insurance coverage is affordable compare to a Honda Civic.
5.) DOHC baby......it's no B18 or K20, its better than a SOHC.
6.) The S model stock lip kits!
I have to admit that the new Corolla are a bit harder to fix up, your not going to find a lot of neat aftermarket parts (you will), but the price is a lot higher! If you choose to go that route. IF IT'S an AE86....there parts all over!!!
Don't jump the gun yet...keep looking and researching before buying picking a car...
1. yes it has been done but ur better not doin that when u get the seats u need to buy brackets and mod it to fit.
2. im happy with mine so far no problems
just go after market its better that the stock HU cant handle nothin if u amp it
1). You can try finding XRS or Celica GTS seats which should fit in the place of the stock rail location.
2). Considering it's low on power, opt for the manual tranny to maximize what power is available there. Unless you're constantly stuck in traffic all the time like I am.
As far as audio equipment is concerned, you're almost always certain to get more bang for the buck if you go with aftermarket setups.
If you can, wait a couple more months for when the 10th gen Corolla arrives, it will surely be an improvement over the current car which is soon to be phased out.

Guys, im thinking of getting an 08 S too and i offered the dealer $15,653 before tax and reg and $50 documentation fee, after some coaxing and playing the waiting game in who gives in first, they finally agreed. I was just wondering if im getting this at a good price?
Will get the platinum warranty and gap somewhere else where its a lot cheaper afterwards
