2000 Corolla Hesitation Problem

I have a 1.8 Liter 2000 Corolla and have been experiencing a hestitation when I accelerate. I have checked the plugs and tested the igntion coils for spark. All seems to be OK. Any suggestions as to what else might be causing the problem?

Is there a CEL? if so, check it out at your local pepboys/auto zone/ etc.

How many miles on the car?

I have had tpo get my fuel injectors cleaned by my dealer. I had hesitation when I accelerated. But did not have a CEL. Check the CEL out and report back(if you have one)

2000 Corolla Hesitation Problem

Thanks for the reply,

There are approximately 175,000 km (110,000 miles) on the vehicle. I have been the only owner, so I know it's history. There is no CEL showing. I did not mention that it is a 5-speed standard, so the hesitation is really noticeable when starting off in 1st and when shifting to 2nd and to 3rd. There is a momentary gasp (when starting from a dead stop the car will almost stall) and then the acceleration will pick up. When idling in neutral, the RPMs are about 800 and when you rev quickly, the RPMs momentarily drop before increasing. Could this be a timing issue?
