HELP Me Help a Girl! Brake and tune up questions

Hey guys my friend whos a girl has a 96 corolla DX, not taken care of, the master cylinder was changed by a mechanic but it did nothing to solve the problem she had, the brake pedal would go all the way to the floor to stop the car, i bled the system it worked for a little bit but now its back after i started the car, when the engine is off i try to pmp the brakes but not much pressure it doesnt sink, should i replace the brake booster next? im sure theres no leaks...also where would i find a good deal on this part its at least 140 in san diego...

Another problem is rough idle, should i seafoam the motor at 150,xxxmiles?

well when you start the car the brakebooster gets vacuum and the brakepedal will sink down a bit more than it would when the car is off, because you need much more foot power to operate the pedal without the booster.

Try www.rockauto.com , they tend to have good prices.

Could be something as simple as the brake fluid having absorbed a bunch of water. Is the fluid clear and sort of brown (like a glass of diluted cream soda) or does it look fairly grungy?

Rough idle could be a couple other things than carbon buildup, but seafoaming and steam-cleaning (by running distilled water through) can't hurt. Just change your spark plugs afterward, because all the gunk will get on them and may cause further issues.

If the fluid in the reservoir's not clear, that's the problem and you'd have to bleed it all out while adding new fluid until the bleeding fluid looked clean.

Have you considered getting this evaluated by a reputable garage? Sears Auto Centers (from experience) are pretty good about knowing what they're doing and are cheap to boot.

yea clear fluid comes out, so how much would sears charge? im lik 95% sure its the master booster, there are no leaks at all in the system just the pedal goes to the floor to stop, doesnt sink in so it cant be the master cylinder, does anyone kno how to place the booster? i did it on my prelude before it should be the same way rite?

Hmmm, now im debating if the master cylinder is bad still, even though its not leaking, the booster does relieve the brak pedal pressure when i pump it up, it just doesnt pump as hard as it should...when its on it just has no pressure til u hit the bottom then it will stop the car

Actually, it probably IS the master cylinder. The diagnostics program I have (simple stuff) suggests that it's a primary cup leak in the master cylinder, whatever the hell that is. Best bet would be to go back to the mechanic who installed it and see if the repair's still under warranty if it's the cylinder.

Or just adjust the push-rod that connects to the master cylinder. I'm not all that sure its the master cyl, because it just was replaced.

The cardone rebuild master brake cylinders are often defective due to internal leaks around the piston's cup.
