94 Corolla DX redline fear

I have a 94 DX which burns oil, like many other 7afe's and I'm really afraid of taking it up to redline because I'm afraid that the engine will burn too much oil. What I'm saying probably doesn't make sense, so would it be safe to take a 131,000 mile Corolla with oil burn to about 5k-redline very once in a while?

Bump... I really want to have fun with this car... I need to know whether that fun is going to ruin it or not.

Short answer, yes, safe.

Long answer, I've been running her to redline multiple times a day for well over 50,000 miles of driving. *Shrug* The higher the RPMs, the higher the oil consumption, but as soon as you ease back, the consumption slows down too. I generally have to put in a quart every two/three fillups, which is anywhere from 600-1K miles. If I've been hooning excessively, I may have to put a smidge over a quart in at the second fillup, but I can go back to normal driving and see normal intervals again afterward. As long as your compression is good, it shouldn't be a problem.

You brang up another good point, where can I go/ what do I have to do to test compression? And what is the optimal PSI for the 7afe?

Um. Vaccum gauge goes where the spark plugs usually do, but I'm not sure of the details. Optimal should be listed in either the owner's manual (unlikely) or a Chilton/Haynes manual, but it should be between 180 and 215, I'd guess.

Edit: http://www.search-autoparts.com/sear...l.jsp?id=16170 ?
