Electric Turbo?

I was talking with a friend of mine yesterday and he said he put an electic turbo on his 87 rx7 and it just hooks up to his air intake. and i looked on ebay and it said the these electic turboes give you a 25% increase in power. This sounds like a joke to me. but i wanted to see if anyone knows differently about these electic turbos.

thanks

Yes these are more electric superchargers than anything. "Electric turbo" just doesn't sound right. It IS a waste of money for us ZZE110 people anyway.

yea. he told me he could feel an increase in power. i took it as he felt his engine trying to suck in air AND move the plastic turbine in the electric supercharger housing on acount of it not being able to keep up and actually produce power at higher rpms. i do plan on turboing my car(real, not plastic/electrical). but i havent decided yet if im going to turbo the zze or go with a swap. ive heard from such places as homemadeturbo.com that you really shouldnt push more than 7 psi on a zze without rebuilding a lot of the engines components. and 7 psi would be a small amount considering i would like to push somehwhere between 12-18.

most of the electric turbos you see on ebay are marine bilge pumps not even capable of producing the same CFM your engine draws on its own NA - nevermind create a pressure! Do the math you would be surprised They are parasitic draws and anyone who says otherwhise is claiming butt dyno on anything other than a lawnmower. Your friend is wrong on that one.

There are REAL electric superchargers that exist- but they cost thousands, have their own battery, and only have enough juice for several second runs. To create the quantity of air an engine would need to boost electrically draws a massive amount of power way beyond your alternator.
