well the reason i'm concered is that my friend told me i might have a "distrubutor-less ignition" so it would have to be installed differently?

i would say that it still wouldnt matter though. I would go ask someone other then your friend to find out for sure. Wouldnt hurt to get some more info from someone else. like someone at a parts store

most of the time, for a car that use individual coils packs in place of a distributor, its only that the sensor that give the rpm is not the same, you probably have one of these engine since you have a 99 (probably a 1ZZ-FE)

yea its the 1ZZ-FE. i think you just have to wire it to the main coil or where all the wires start from. But i dont know. I dont plan on putting a tach in the car. its auto. I plan on getting the Apexi I-Moni that plugs right into the OBD-II port and can show RPM's and everything else you can think of. I think anyway

Hey these Apexi I-Moni are pretty cool and they seem easy to install just plug-in and use, i think i might go with that. Anyone know if i have a OBD-II port in my car?

+1

I don't like those tacky aftermarket tachos. My favorite way to add a tacho is to swap in a gauge cluster with one, swapping your old speedo over to the new cluster to preserve your odometer. But I think joeyb649 don't need to do it since it's an LE which should already have a tacho.

Next is to tape a small strip of bright colored tape to the tacho face, at the scale near the RPM you like to shift at. When the needle goes past it, you shift.

1ZZ ignition is distributorless, and one coil pack serves two cylinders aka wasted spark.

joeyb649: Yes you have an OBD2 port below the coin drawer. That I-Moni thingy and Scangauge II are the next best thing. Hell SG2 even gets you gas mileage data.

I'm not gunna lie the I-Moni looks really nice and looks better but dosn't have a shift light and its about $140 more just to look fancy

The fx2 is nice and more in my price budget, but dose it even have a tachometer?
