Well as some of you know, my Silvertop 20V recently spun a bearing and im trying to figure out the best option to get the rolla back on the road.
Now everything im saying here is in my currency, but...its costing me aprox 7K to rebuild a blacktop head and block coming with harness and ECU. (7K for everything)
The prob is, a complete engine from japan cost even less....because ill have alot of spare parts i can re-sell to make back about 3K, in all costing me 4K for a good working engine.
I've always wanted to go boost, and was considering buying a Jap 4AGZE instead. for about 6K, and can sell parts from my spun Silvertop. I also have a spare Blacktop head i was thinking to put on the GZE if i went this way.
How do youll feel?, what are your suggestions.?
If you've got to fix/replace something, go one better with the replacement. 20V 4AGZE sounds like an excellent idea...the down-low torque of the supercharger plus the high-RPM breathing of the ITBs, what's there not to like? Granted, you'll have to fabricate a plenum that'll hold boost, but that's pretty minor.
yes common sense will tell you that i WAS talking about the engine code...
Anyway...its obvious to me that the GZE would be the better buy, it comes with boost "which we all love", and it can be modded pretty easily.
It's just to find one now i guess.
But how does a blacktop hold up against a GZE?, i take it that the GZE will rape the BT on accl, but the 20V will walk past at top end speed..
personally i prefur the low end torque
depends on what your doing with the car, gze would probably be better for the street. just remember you can't just bolt everything up and make a 20V gze hybrid, itll take a good amount of fabrication.
the hybrid, and any mods arnt my concern at this point, i just need to know what will i have to do or change for the GZE to replace the 20V.
I started a new thread on TN. Check it out and if you can help me ill apriciate it, thanks.
4E-FTE isnt as bad as people think. its a pretty good fuel miser, with 130hp from the factory with boost... which puts it in par with a 4A-GE 20V, I'm not sure about the torque, might be that the 4E-FTE actually has more.
Actually there is.. EE Series Corollas come with the E series (2E, etc) motors, lots of European countries get them.
That happen to be my situation. I have a '92 4door corolla Sedan with a 2E engine, that I'm having a few issues with (blown head gasket), and I wanted to know how difficult would be to replace that engine. considering the 2E I have is carburetted, has a 3 speed 132L tranny, and is a JDM (not american) version, how difficult would be to fit in a 4AFE or 5AFE engine on the car?? right now I have a junkyard offering a 5AFE engine at a good price complete, and they will even throw the manual tranny on it ( although I want to keep my auto tranny).
my Main concerns are:
1. mounts: will the engine bolt on without modifying the car?
2. ECU: my car doesnt use a ECU so, can this be a source of trouble??
3. tach: my dashboad is the one with tach and this one doesnt have all the lights the ECU one has, so can this be a issue?
Sorry to hijack your thread my friend , I just couldn't allow me to not take advantage of all this great knowledge all of you have
^^^.....if youve got a 2E engine then a A series wont bolt str8 up..
Youll need to get an E series engine.....To my experience the right side mount needs to relocate further up. I had to do this with my EE90 to fit the 4AGE, because i went from 2E to 4A. Not that hard to do.
But if you can get a 4efe it will bolt str8 up...or if you want a lil fun go 4EFTE
If its carby you wont have an ECU, so youll need to get ECU, and wiring harness with the FI engine, and get someone to wire it up for you.

That's what I thought. Judging by pictures I took to my car and a few found googling, I noted the difference btw. here are the pics:
4AFE
2E Engine (not mine)
Perhaps you could post pics of your car, or at least what is the procedure, if possible
ill see what i can do for you with the pics, cuz the engine is out rite now so its the best time...
Those two pics describe exactly what im talking about, the mount your see on the left side needs to move.
Notice the 2E mount is further back.
What i did was use one side of the 2E mount bracket and welded another piece for the other side for the 4A bracket.....So i can actually swap both A and E series engines,
Ill tek a pic for you if i remember.
Oih and i now rememberd...the gbox mount is different, but nuthing needs to move just to replace the bracket.
