hemi as in hemispherical head, because thats what hemi means. I think the T series engines with the G head were hemispherical. As are most of the 16-valve heads. (well you can call them hemis).

Hemi V8, is just a V8 engine with hemispherical combustion chambers, not something special.

it's impossible to have a HEMI with more than 2 valves per cylinder. or else the valves would have to be moutned at weird angles.

toyota heads are mostly hemispherical in nature, but are not true HEMIs. at least not ones with more than 2 valves per cylinder.

that and HEMI is trademarked, so it would just be hemispherical, not a HEMI

np

btw: the reason hemis were/are so popular is because in a lot of drag racing the engines are limited to 2 valves per cylinder. And having a hemispherical head is the best way to be fast with only 2 valves.

crysler started using it again just because it has a connotation of speed and racing. that and they don't have to put as many valves in the engines

The 4A-GE has a hemi combustion chamber or crossflow cylinder head . It has four valves per cylinder. Two intake on one side and two exhaust on the oppostie sides. The term hemi comes from hemispherical combustion chamber which is when the combustion chamber is hemispherical shape like a half a globe. Hence the name like hemisphere. The old design combustion chambers were called wedge combustion chambers. FFchick probably has the 3T-C engine in her car which is a 2 valve per head push rod hemi combustion chamber engine. In the old days it was nick named the "mini-hemi".

Well the 16 valvers would be more like a pent-roof, but you can theoretically call them hemi...
