ae101 bluetop?

I've been trying to figure out why my engine has a "bluetop"????!! It's not painted on. Anyone ever hear of a OEM bluetop?

AE86s came with Bluetop 4AGEs (blue lettering) AE92s came with Redtop bigport and smallport 4AGEs(red lettering).

I've never heard of AE101 blue tops, this is the first time I hear an AE101 bluetop question, AE101s at least in north america only came with the 4AFE and 7AFE which never had this terminology used for their generations.

yea, uhm the bluetop your referring to is most likely from the 3sgte motor. the top fits directly onto the 7afe and there is a slightly rarer swap. instead of a twin cam with a single slave cam the blue top is a true DOHC. o and the ae101 was not released in america, the ae102 was the american release model

I'm thinking he is talking about the silver or black top 4A-GE engines (cuz they were the ones equipped in the AE101), but has been misinformed and told that they have a blue top 4A-GE engine.

If it actually has a blue top in it then I can't help but wonder why some one would swap that engine in instead of a silver or black top... or even a red top... any of the newer versions except the oldest... Just dose not make sense to me.

Actually I have a blue top with red writing on it. With the difference between red and blue top is one has T-VIS (blue top) and the other does not (red top). Though this was just the general consensus on Club 4AG.

To be honest I think we just need to come up with a new name for the early AE92 4A-GE cuz it does have different internals then the earlier version and at the same time is not up to par with the later version.

From this point on I'm calling it a purple top cuz it's some where stuck between red and blue top.
