My 04 Corolla is starting to show signs that it needs new tires. What is the best brands and how long do tires last? Consumer Reports show Dunlap SP Sport 5000 and Mitchelin Pilot as good tires. Something good in snow.
Walmart sells OK tires (Kumho, Goodyears, Nexen) and what I like about them is that they give you free balance and rotation every 5-10,000km's as long as you bought your tires there.
just don't go buy yoko prada's......... had them on for 6 months......... smoother's than a baby's butt............. no track sessions, only 1 autox day......(6 runs) Not that much millege either.... its not my daily driving style too... cause i bought 4 fuzion zri's, 2 of them were done after 3 track days and 4 autox days and about 10000 highway km... then bought those pradas, they are done before my zri's are....right now, my original zri's still got tread left... and i do tire rotations too...
How fast they wear out depends on what rating you get, sounds like you got Z rated tires, which wear out faster than anything out there but give you great handling.
Go with H rated tires if you want mid-performance on mid thread wear rating.
it goes like this.. S, T, H, V, W and Z from lowest to highest speed rating.
And I believe you had Yokohama Paradas, all high performance tires from V and up wear out quick, the higher you go the quicker they wear out, hence the reason I stay with H rated, I don't need to brag that my car has W or Z rated tires, going anything after 140km/h you would lose your license anyways.
the speed rating does not always me the tires are gonna wear out super fast, they do make high speed rating tires with a good wear rating on them, from the expeirnce of all the low profile high performance tires ive had when you pay more on the tire they will last a while

i had a set of these on the 18s on my Tbird in High school on the rear, this is with a shift kit that spins wheels in the 1st to 2nd shift and a high school driver with a low 14 sec car, so you can imagine my driving style, but anyways i got a solid 25k out of these, and even took them to the strip twice for a few runs, but if you threw tire rack you will see people get alot of miles out of them.
so all things consider if you pay 75 bucks for a Z rated tire, odds are its gonna wear out super fast but i think if you spend a little more money, you will get a better wear rating.
and this does not pertain to every tire out there, im sure there are a few tires that dont conform to this oppinion.

Dunlap SP Sport 5000 aren't rated that great...Go with the Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S , their the top rated High Performance all season tire at around $90 US, that's my next tire
i had straight up regular pilots on my bird and loved them, about the stickiest tire i have ever had, i got them because of the xgt z4's being so good for a regular looking tread
its really a matter of oppinion, but i would assume the surveys are accurate, read some customer testomonials
