Post 4age & 4agze Info

You all probably know this information but I found it and thought I'd share.

4AGE ENGINES
Brief History Lesson!
The 4AGE is 1587cc DOHC 16 valve, cast iron block with a wide angle valve alloy head and was introduced late 1983. Some say a modern day BDA!

There are 5 different variations.
Phase 1: 1983 - 1987. (Non Catalyst)
The early engines were a huge success for Toyota being well ahead of anything else available at the time. They produced a genuine 122BHP and would rev to around 8000rpm. Crank Journals were 40mm, with 18mm gudgeon pins. To identify early engines, they all have 3 vertical ribs on the block under the inlet manifold.
Phase 2: 1987 - 1989. (Non Catalyst)
The second evolution engines have the same 122BHP, but have a stronger bottom end, Crank journals have been increased to 42mm with 20mm gudgeon pins, there are now 7 vertical ribs on the block under the inlet manifold for strengthening, and the cylinder heads have harder valve seats for unleaded fuel. We prefer the phase 2 engine for conversions, it is much stronger and will rev to 8500rpm.
Phase 3: 1989 - 1992. (Non Catalyst)
The Third evolution engines have all the advantages of the phase 2 engine + oil spray on the piston skirts. This engine produces 129BHP,The 7 extra BHP is gained from a narrower port design on the cylinder head to speed gas flow, and the abolition of the TVIS system. This engine can be identified by its 7 rib block, and an external oil return pipe on the right hand side and rear of the cylinder head.
Phase 4: 1992 - 1995. 20VALVE. (Catalyst)
The fourth evolution engines all have 5 valves per cylinder. 3 inlet and 2 exhaust. The inlet valves are controlled by variable camshaft timing. They produce 150BHP and have individual throttle bodies as standard. They are identified by the silver rocker cover, and airflow meter.
Phase 5: 1995 - 1999. 20VALVE. (Catalyst)
The fifth and final 4AGE is the same as above, only has a black rocker cover and Map sensor injection system. They are very rare and sought after in many countries around the world, making them very expensive!

4AGE Specifications Approx;
Weight - Bare ie. No manifolds, starter or alternator is 80KG.
Length From Front pulley to flywheel is 545mm.
Max Height - sump to oil cap is 610mm.
Width - widest across cambelt cover 270mm, Not including manifolds.
Toyota T-50 Type RWD Gearbox Specifications;
Weight - 30KG
Overall Length, including bellhousing is 760mm.
Front edge of bellhousing to gearlever is 670mm.
We also import the supercharged 4AGZE.

Phase 1, 4AGZE: 1986 - 1989
The first evolution of supercharged 16 valve engines by toyota had all the advantages of the phase 2 4age but with added supercharger and lower compression pistons gained 23bhp, taking the total to 145 bhp, with a massive 45% increase in torque. Getting on a bit now so go for a phase 2, 4AGZE!.
Phase 2, 4AGZE: 1989 - 1992
The second evolution of supercharged 16 valve engines by toyota produced 165bhp, and an incredible 155lbs/ft torque. We recently recorded 140lbs/ft @ 1250 rpm ! These engines had the benefit of the narrow port head design, oil spray on the piston skirts, strengthened block and ran an extra 2 psi boost as standard with an increase in compression ratio over the earlier 4agze. This engine is also very easily and cheaply tuned to 195 BHP, making it the performance bargain of the century.

sweet 195bhp, ... expect to buy a better clutch and pressure plate at this point.
