P0441 Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow
P0446 Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Malfunction

What year? Toyota may have an extended warranty on some 1998+/- year cars per EPA lawsuit.

The fuel tank is sealed to prevent gasoline emissions. A charcoal canister absorbs gas fumes and stores them. The fumes are directed to the engine to be burned when running. The system has a pressure sensor to detect if the tank remains pressured (sealed). If the tank depressurizes, codes are tripped indicating an air leak somewhere or one of the system components is not working.

Problem areas to check with these codes: vacuum hose leaks in fuel tank in emissions control system. Check hoses to the charcoal canister and VSV systems. Canister could have leak, defective VSV for pressure sensor or EVAP, vapor pressure sensor, fuel tank overfull check valve. Also check the gas cap seal.

Check the seal on the gas cap first, then for broken, plugged or damaged hoses in the emission control system.

Try this link. Read down the page and find the effected vehicles hotlink, then download the specific vehicles covered.

I had these codes on my 2000 Corolla and went into the service department and asked them about it. The folks were pretty nice and told me it was probably the VSV for pressure valve. (IIRC) I bought a new one for about $35 or so (It may have been $15, I can't remember exactly), and replaced the old one. It is down under the rear end of the car on the side you fill the tank on. Mine was pretty rusted and I'm not suprised it went bad. I mention it because I just got the code again and needed to remind myself what the code means. I haven't looked yet, but I'm pretty sure the valve is just rusted out and needs to be replaced again.

Don't be afraid to go ask the guys in the service department at the dealership. They like cars too, and usually won't mind helping you out. Rather than treating the service department as someone to fight with, treat them as the guys to get parts from that you can't get from Rock Auto.

Anyone want to confirm what the part number for the VSV for Vapor Pressure Sensor is on the 98 Corolla? I found 9008091240 to be the right number from the help of a freind and the TEPC. Apparently that number is a revised part number as well. Also I am wondering if you think it will for sure fit a 98 Prizm as that is what it will be going on. Reason for buying a Toyota part is I can't even find the same GM part on the online GM parts dealers. Doesn't even seem to exist....? If anyone can find the GM part number I may just buy that. Thanks!

Turns out that Toyota part number is the exact same part as the Chevrolet Prizm VSV. They look identical and now I just have to try it out and see if the CEL goes away for good. I know for a fact the old one was malfunctioning because you can blow air into it and if it comes out the other port it is bad. Hope this info helps someone else.
