I've decided I want to pull an I/H/E job on my 99 Corola CE (4 door, 5spd)
My question is what to buy... obviosuly Intake,Header, Exhaust. I've found all theese products for my car. But, because of my lack of automotive knowledge, I don't know witch to buy. I want to get the most acceleration and horsepower I can harness from an Intake,Header, and Exhaust.
Suggested Products?
Dyno Proven?
: I have about $800 to spend : I would rather not have a cold air intake because it gets "freezing" in Connecicut in the winter and i'm told if water is sucked into the engine it can seize it. (correct if i'm wrong)
Those are pretty much my only stipulations
You won't be able to pull it off with 800 dollars unless the parts are used/crappy/ghetto rigged. Nitrous would fit your budget but unsure of what you want in terms of acceleration.
Lol you can pull this off easy with some common eBay parts that name brand whores overlook.
- Bomz Short Ram Intake
- OBX or Megan Headers
- OBX or Megan Highflow Cat (Or just gut your cat out. Unless you live in a state where they do emissions checking.)
- The knockoff Tsudo N1 on eBay sounds great and holds up well. Also fits well. If you find any brands on eBay you see that you like, just post them up here.
Other than that, those are the only proven cheap brands that actually fit/work. If you want name brand stuff, then it's gonna cost you more.
And with what I just gave you, you will probably have money leftover.
However, if you do want to get the most bang for your buck, just go by a nitrous express system.

I'm lookin at some parts on ebay right now but i can't tell whether the K&N filter is worth 25-30 dollars more then the other intakes when it only claims 5 more hp.
I'm looking at the Bomz but its $70.00 -shipping witch i mean dosn't kill my budget, but i dont want to buy something $25 dollars more that is not giving me any more performance.

Nope, wasn't referring to the name brand ones. But they are proven to work and fit. The parts on ebay have not been tested. Why short ram and not cold air? OBX/Megan/etc generic parts do not all have perfect fitment. They were not benched tested to increase power. Still have yet to see an dyno chart from them. Don't even bother with the hi-flow since they are crap, take a look at the inside and how long they last. Not my money, I just advise against them. Why are not more people using them?
You be lucky it you can get through the first shot..without messing up the motor....
It's easy to install and cheap....but the damage they cost without prior setup will be costly...please do some extra research...I know that you are itching burn rubber!!!! But save your hard earn money and do a little bit of research...You'll thank yourself later!!!
Nitrous is safe if you choose the right ones with the precautions like colder spark plugs and added fuel (depending on shot size). Things to consider is do you want to run a dry shot or a wet shot, do you want to run the 50hp shot or the 75hp shot or even 100+hp shot. Of course the higher the shot the more the danger. If you research enough and know the know hows its safe. Most people have the common mentality that nitrous will blow up your engine. Too much F&TF. But as Final said, research is key.
The amount of nitrous in a tank depends on your finger. Cost depends on your refill station. I'm not sure what your asking by the circuit racing and drag racing.

I know alot of friends who use these parts, and I have used them as well for long periods of time wiith no trouble. The reason I say short ram is because he said he only had 800$. The money he would have to pay for a cold air isn't worth the VERY small hp gain he would get from a cold air intake. I tested my car with both cold air, and then short ram on numerous occasions and the numbers didn't change much. Also he says he doesn't know alot about cars, so a short ram intake would be easier to figure out. It's a pipe with a hole in it and a filter on the end.

You're afraid of hydrolocking. Yes that would be bad. But if you point your intake downwards and don't place it too low, it isn't likely to suck in water.
The really cheapest way to do it is to pull off your stock intake and exhaust headers, do a porting (there's DIY floating somewhere doing this on a 1ZZ engine, involves grinding the ports smooth with a Dremel), and put it back. Parts wise you'd only be out the money on intake, exhaust and exhaust donut gaskets. Even if you send it out for a machine shop to do it (the shop I got my flywheel resurfaced calls it flow matching) it's about $200 per side, still within your budget.
