I've read several threads here and on other corolla forums that say when they put a short ram intake or full CAI on their XRS that it threw a check engine light. How much of a concern is this really? I don't know why I can't just leave a car stock, but slowly and surely the modifications tend to trickle into my cars. I was thinking about throwing an intake on my '05 Corolla XRS, but if I'm going to have issues with check engine lights then I'll just leave it alone and go shopping for a short shifter instead.

no not really
Cosmo and Injen are pretty good no CEL's
My friend just installed a Injen CAI on his 2006 XRS and I was with him on the weekend for the same CEL issue.
We reset the ECU (disconnected the negative terminal of the battery) and left it for 15 mins. After reconnecting, let the car idle for 5 minutes. Then test drove it for 30 minutes and CEL did not come back on.
I also did the samething to mine a year and a half ago when I got my Injen installed. Never seen CEL since I got it installed. Get the cold air intake. You will be very happy with the results.

I'm wondering why the brand really matters. I mean, it's just a bent pipe and an air filter. Why would something that costs a hundred bucks more than another matter in that case? I'm being serious about that question. I had a no name intake on my Integra GSR and I didn't notice any difference between that and an AEM one.

Quality of the product makes the difference. Injen is definitely the best out there in terms of quality and workmanship. Some intakes have rougher surfaces inside the piping because of poor quality work.
Having said that, if it does not rain too much in your city, it is much better to get a CAI because it pulls cold air from outside and does not cause heat soak when the engine bay gets hot.

got a Injen CAI 2 months ago on my 05 XRS, love it. got my first CEL two weeks ago, it cleared itself for a few days (?), and now it's back again. haven't run the code yet as the car seems to run perfectly and i can't imagine it WOULDN'T be from the CAI--if so, i'm wondering why.
WHAT HAPPENED TO *************.COM? can't find a forum with ppl talking about it.
is it worth getting the hydroshield thing from injen? i live in soCal, rarely rains here and even if it does, i never had encounter going into deep puddle of water/mud or anything here.
