4 Chevy and 2 Toyota Dealers Can't Help. Does Anyone know size of this bolt?

I have a 97 Prizm. I just noticed that my alternator is loose b/c it's missing the lock bolt on the bottom of the alternator. This is the shorter bolt that goes from left to right when you're standing in front of the car looking down in the engine bay. A couple dealers told me that the adjusting bolt was 8 x 1.25 x 89 mm but that's not the bolt I need. I need the smaller one and no one can tell me what the specs are on it. Very frustrating! I tried an 8 x 1.25 x 43 and the bolt was too small (thin) and just slid in and out without grabbing any threads. Can someone help me? Thanks!

No, I must have lost it when I was doing my timing belt. I might just go to the hardware store and buy a couple bolts slightly bigger than the 8 x 1.25 x 40 bolt I bought and see if that works.

If you have clearance from behind use a smaller (diameter) bolt with enough length to go through alternator housing and use a lock washer and nut. Might be easier than tracking down the original.
