The Extra Stuff Counts
After ripping through 4 ae86s, there a few things i think are good to keep as back up, esspecially for those who frequnet the track or autocrosses or just plain ol' beat the sh!t out of their hachi.
obviously, space and budget is a major consideration in keeping these extra things, so take this with a grain of salt...well more like personal advice.
transmission: ever think how much duress this long metal thingy experiences whenever you track, autocross or touge your hachi? 1st to 2nd to 3rd to 4th down to 3rd up to 4th down to 3rd down to 2nd up to 3rd....you get my point. At some point in time, that gearbox/tranny is going to die and to reduce costs of buying a release bearing from Toyota (for how much Neil?), keep an extra t50 on hand.
rear ends: i've seen it on videos and i've seen friends experience it first hand. you start supercharging that ae or start throwing around the car like its a rag doll, and driveline parts WILL disintigrate. bearings will seize, ring and pinions will break, even that solid steel axel will snap in half. not to mention the diff. always good to keep one of these babies on hand.
body parts: these things are so hard to find in the first place, you may as well stock up on anything you can find.
headlight motors: all i have to say is, try replacing one from toyota and see how much it costs.
4ages: its not really imparative that you have an extra one, but it helps. missing a bell housing bolt, no problem just grab it off the extra 4age. water pump seems shitty? grab it off the extra one. leaky injectors? try the extra one....its just a safegaurd more than anything.
obviously a parts car is by far the best solution. that is of course, if you can convince either your wife, girlfriend or parents that a rusty piece of sh!t taking up a good chunk of your driveway is worth it.
