Question I want a 5-speed!

Ok so i did the research but i still have questions.

i have a 91 corolla automatic 4AFE AE92 (no bells and whistles but i love the car). my motor isn't anywhere near going with over 250k miles on it (oil is golden and doesn't miss a beat) but i'm afraid my auto tranny can't keep up...so my boyfriend agreed to swap it if i found out all the info i needed. (he's done plenty of swaps on toyota trucks and vw's but never on a toyota car)

so i did the searches found the parts that i need (if i can't find a donor), found out the major headaches etc. but now i have one thing that i am a bit confused about.

the c52. from what i read here and other places the c52 is the stronger tranny (in comparison with the c50). what vehicles can i find a c52 in? and this is right for me to think that it will bolt up to my car or should i just find a c50?

thanks!

just a suggestion: tranny swaps should def be a sticky!

i suggest you get the c50, the C52 have longer gears, so loose some acceleration.

i counsel to get the engine that goes with the tranny (im not sure that a 4A-FE go on a c-50), for a c-50, it would be a 4A-GE redtop or bluetop(the redtop is the best of the twos) you also need a pedal set, a shifter (with all the cables) and the clutch cylinder and all the tube that go with it.

you can get a tranny for the 4A-FE (dont remember the tranny number, sorry )

also there a chance that you need to change the ECU, since some settings are not the same (idle higher on the automatic one, ect)

I say you want the C52, and it has the larger axles too. It also has the 2 starter humps on it. But lot sof people here do this work all the time I realy on my old experince from years and past training..

C52 went from like 1988 (late) to 1992 I think ? There's a list some where, i think I posted the link a while back...

The C52 was available on the Corolla GTS in north america and pretty much all AE92s in the rest of the world. I think Toyota only put the C50 in north american cars because it was cheaper but who knows.

... And throughout the entire gen 7? I am quite sure 94_rolla_guy's car has a C52.
