1zzfe A/T and M/T ECU's

Hi i am doing a auto to manual swap.. and i wanted to know if i can keep the a/t ecu.. and whats the difference between them two.

I read something about modifying the a/t ecu to work with the manual transmission. Also.. is it neccessary to have an electronic speed sensor?.. I am using a old c52 {the motor is being swaped in a ae92}. and i would like to keep my old dash and mechanical speedometer gear {cable style}. What about the ingition key chip/ecu problem?

Thanks.

Buurin just did an Auto to manual conversion on a ZZE110 Corolla, I don't recall him saying he had to switch from an auto to manual ECU.

for the ignition key when you change ECU theres no problem with that (theres wasnt any chip in keys for the ae92 :p ) for the difference between the ECU of the A/T version and the M/T, its simply some settings (littles things like idle, etc) so you can keep the one you have.

you want to use an 1ZZ-FE in a AE92? you should go for a 7A-FE if you want a 1.8L that badly.....

Rookie One...

i am swapping that motor in.. because of multiple reasons that are not related to BECAUSE IS A 1.8. And in my opinion the 7afe is not worth it {power wise/plus i have a fresh rebuild 4af with a 32/36}. I was going to swap a 4age {turbo} in but.. this is dayli driven. I got a 44k miles 1zzfed from a 02 celica with wiring and everything.. and this engine is LIGHTER than the 4a's and more than the 7a. Makes MORE power. Is newer in general.. and it will be unique.. i havent seen that much people swaping 1zz/2zz in ae92s. Those are my reasons. I already have 2 ae86's to play with.. a to be 3sgte ae86 and a regular gts coupe.

Resistor Hacks? how does that work?

Let me guess. Accomplishment factor. You want a project.

Short answer: Hook a number of big ass resistors to the ECU to fool it into believing that the shift solenoids in the auto tranny (which is gone after the swap) is still there. If not done, you will get CELs.

That said, you are actually looking at an engine swap rather than manual conversion. You're going from A family to ZZ family. Tranny for ZZ family is C59. So I'm not sure if your C52 bolts in. But if it does, you only need to fabricate one engine mount.

Good luck.

mine is manual.. but is a 4af with a c52 .. about the bolt pattern.. i already checked and is different.. so i need something like a c56 or c59. If i can i am going to get one out of a celica {final gear ratio/better accel}.

But i have to search for it.

About fabricating mounts.. not a problem.. i have a mig and a stick welder. and i have experience on fabricating mounts on my past/current projects {v8 350 suzuki samurai, and the 3sgte ae86 using chevy tranny energy suspension mounts as motor mounts}.

This car is dayli driven.. i plan on keeping it stock.. except custom air intake/ relocating battery to trunk, custom exhaust mandrel bend all the way.

I will be keeping the A/c and making it work with ALL BRAND NEW PARTS {i like to do things right and have old cars with new parts and a whole bunch of money wasted hahaha}. But NO powersteering since.. i already did a manual rack conversion, It costed me 225 just to get the manual rack and pinion.

Thanks for all the help. If you guys know where to get a decent c59 out of a last gen celica.. let me know i want one.

Thanks.
