ecu codes... bad ecu?

i have been swapping an ae111 blacktop into a 1994 geo prizm and ive been having trouble getting it to run right. the problem starts when i give it any kind of throttle, the timing retards instead of advancing. so i jumped th TE1 and E1 on the dlc and came up with a few codes i got a 12, 21, 22, 24, 31, and 41, so i started testing each sensor by following the test proceedures in the black top repair manual, and all the connections checked out fine, i was ondering if it really is my ecu and if someone has had any similar problems.

First find out what the codes mean and if they apply to your car or engine. Does the new motor have the same type of timing/coil/ignitor setup as the old one?

Is there a model number for this engine? Was it offered as a option, etc on this car? The sensors from the new engine my be differant from the old engine and as a result the ECU is confused.

Sounds like a big wiring problem to me.

I've had 2 20v ECU's fail and they just won't give codes and also won't idle or rev above 5000 after they've failed. Still operate normally in all other aspects.

I'd double check you wiring.
