4age experts please!

Im sure this has been discussed before but Im really having a tough time finding info. Does a redtop(high comp) block bolt onto a blue top(large port) head without any modifications? does the high comp block work with the ae86 tranny. are all the lines the same? I knwo there is an oil line that can be plugged. I sounds like an easy job...is it really? Any help would be greatyl appreciated I cant find good write ups on this anywhere

If i remember right the only thing that makes the Redtop install diferent then the blue is the fact that the redtop has no oil cooler.A 4age/gze will always bolt up to the trans they have not changed that part.Redtop block can take a bigport head with no problems it just lowers the Compression ratio but the head is better if you got modifications in mind later.

i believe it is the pistons that make the difference in the c/r of the big port vs. the small port, not the head..

that's the whole point of swapping a big port head onto a red top bottom end, so you get the higher compression but don't have to deal with rigging up a small port head to work with the ae86 harness..

but ask on club4ag to make sure, i'm pretty sure you can find someone there who's actually done it

small port motor runs on larger injectors and the internals of the block are different. although it is only the pistons that do the compression increasing on the 4ag engine, the redtop has stronger con rods, oil squirters etc.

yes, u can swap a bluetop head onto a redtop block but i dont know why you'd want to do that. if u are going to take the head off u may as well get some cams...and cams on a redtop head will do very very good.

i've compared the cam lift and the duration on thebluetop and redtop....
redtop has higher lift than bluetop, butthe duration on the bluetop is almost double the redtop...

Thanks guys I really appreciate the help, club4ag hasnt helped e one bit, its sort of a newbie question so no one will answer me. The reason I want the red top bottom is because it is much stronger from what ive heard. I want to keep my head because its just been rebuilt and I dont want to have to change wiring, ecu etc, im glad the red top bolts right on, thats good news, thanks guys

the thing is do you want to keep iit T-VIS or Non T-Vis.....
T-Vis gives you lower torque but does not rev high as much as non Tvis,..,.. you lose the lower torque on the redtop but you gain the high reving torque on the redtop....

depand on what kind of track you go on....if theres lots of straight, go for redtop, lots of corners, take bluetop....

what are your major goals?
