98 corolla LE engine swap questions.

Hey there,

I'm new to the forums and just recently gettin into cars but i love it XD.

I have a 98 corolla LE and i'm thinkin of swapping the 5afe motor to the starlet turbo motor 4efte ( i believe it is)

currently my corolla is 4-speed auto. if i get the motor it would come with the tranny 5 speed manual. Here is where i need some advice. i know i need pedals and other stuff. if someone can give me a run down of exactly wats needed and anything that needs to be altered so i can swap the engine and the estimated cost to buy these additional parts. i know a shop that will do the swap for about 300 dollars. i never got time to talk to the guy about wat other things i need.

thanks in advance.

Stop!!

Don't rush into doing a swap. It could cost you an arm/leg and hole in your wallet! Do the math...First! Ask yourself a few questions first:

1.) Is the Car pay-off
2.) Is the Title under your name
3.) Creditability of the shop (regarding swapping motor)
4.) Access to motor parts
5.) Time, Energy, Money, Investment
so-on.....

Cayman Islands as in the Caribbean????

You don't want to do those swaps... that would be taking a step back from your current 1ZZ-FE.

lol, yes Cayman islands as in the caribbean :P..

FINAL.. wat do u mean is the car pay off? i dont quite understand

umm, the shop is very realiable , they have done this swap before, but the cost is what i'm really contemplating about, i'm thinkin of just buyin my own glanza V, but the insurance companies down here are stupid about 2 doors and turbos, also the fact i'm 17, but thats not an issue. I really wanted to work on a ae102 because down here everyone just gets honda's and rices up the streets, but watever gettin off topic XD. i talked to the owner today and he said that the engine and tranny is around $1600 and then other parts plus installation. But i now think is it just better to get my own ae102 that comes standard. would that make an engine swap easier later in the future, or would the engine that comes in that ( i think its the 4age, plzz correct me if i'm wrong) be worth tuning.

thanks for the answers .

You finish paying off the car and it belongs to you 100% (NOT your MOM or DAD Toyota). The WORST thing you can DO is MOD your PARENTS' CAR!

As for your motor or ANY other motors...ALWAY get it re-built from grounds UP!!! Yes....I'M PREVIOUSLY FROM HONDA, I made the switch from HONDA to Toyota
